Savannah Bicycle Campaign
The Savannah Bicycle Campaign is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that aims to promote bicycling in the community and to create, strengthen and unite local bicycle groups, riders, and enthusiasts to improve conditions for cycling in Savannah and Chatham County. Bursting with energy and building on success, the Savannah Bicycle Campaign is stronger than ever having this year hired Frank McIntosh as Executive Director to help carry out our mission. Together with supportive city and county staff, we are continuing to build relationships and funding to develop programs in education, encouragement and advocacy for improved bicycling infrastructure.
An Honorable Mention recipient on its first attempt at Bicycle Friendly Community designation, Savannah is poised to become a mecca for cycling, with the continued support and effort of those who understand the positive impacts of cycling on health, public safety and air quality.
We welcome you to the second annual Midnight Garden Ride on Saturday, September 4, 2010. We also welcome you as a member in support of better bicycling in Savannah — join today!
2009-2010 SBC Accomplishments:
- Held the first Midnight Garden Ride fundraiser and Tybee Trailblazer Ride to raise money and awareness for a safe, non-motorized connection between Savannah and Tybee.
- Hosted free community fun rides including a 300-rider Earth Day Wheelie and a casual night ride and concert with pop cellist Ben Sollee.
- Developed and aired Share the Road PSAs on local TV.
- Encouraged bicycle commuting through monthly 2Wheels 2Work Bike Convoys.

- Held February seminar to train certified League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructors (LCIs) for Savannah. These instructors, working in conjunction with the City of Savannah, have begun Savannah Bicycle College and Ride Savannah education courses.
Goals for this year include:
- Continue to advocate for a pavement-marked southbound bike lane from downtown and east-west bike facilities.
- Assist in development of an update of the 2000 Chatham County bikeways plan to include on road and off-road facilities
- Push for development of Complete Streets policies at the Metropolitan Planning Organization, county and city levels.
- Develop and produce a bicycle map for city and county.
- Develop a plan for safe bicycle access between Savannah and Tybee Island
